Sara Frederick was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and raised in Monroeville of the same state. As a child, she enjoyed art: drawing, painting, crafts, and music. She also enjoyed playing with the digital point-and-shoot camera that belonged to her parents.

Frederick rediscovered a love for photography after abandoning a law track at the University of Dayton. She received her BFA in photography from the university in 2018.
